In the modern world, a man has been running constantly in the pursuit of material happiness, monetary gain, good health and well-being. But endless pursuit without any destination does not lead humans anywhere. Have you ever asked yourself the reason for which a human being needs happiness and prosperity? What drives a man to crave for hedonism every day- he/she wants to become better from others or thinks that happiness can be bought?
Are you actually happy in living such a life? Are you satisfied?
It is not that you are without any purpose. But your purpose changes according to the changing situations and compels you to change yourself so that you seem well-suited and fit. You would actually take all the pain for such self-transformation because it seems to be the way of the world.
But the key to true happiness lies in realizing yourself in the glory of God. All you need to do is to hear the Word of God and find inspiration in living all the situations that life would offer you. One, who chooses to read Bible, is never unhappy and understands that incessant material pursuit has no meaning. One of the most illumining benefits of reading Bible is that you have God talking to you and guiding you with His Word. Your life would change when you would experience Jesus in you, breathing, talking and providing you the motivation to see through things and conquer life.
I feel encouraged by the Holy Spirit to tell you the eighteen benefits of Bible study and spread His Word so that mankind does not suffer from any affliction or false hope and bask in the magnificence of Jesus. In the commanding words of God –
Joshua 1:8 “This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; but you shall meditate therein day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.”
1. You Would Learn to Live a life of Privilege and Worth
When you read the Scriptures, you are enabled by Jesus himself to observe it and gradually realize its worth. Bible is an open invitation from Jesus to read His letter that is full of personalized messages. The feeling of being invited for conversations from the Omnipotent would make you feel privileged. When one reads the Bible, he/she becomes the children of God who is protected, guided and inspired by the Saviour himself. Such personal conversations help you to move ahead and find salvation in life.
2. Your faith Would Be Strengthened
The Bible is to be studied verbally which allows you to invoke the blessings of God. As the Scripture goes, “Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ” (Romans 10:17). One needs to read Bible with truthfulness and complete devotion so that the Holy Spirit is awakened. A stirred soul would find the “Spirit of Truth” which, as per the Bible, would glorify Jesus. Your faith would germinate in Christ and become strong as you keep on trusting His Words. When we submit ourselves to Scriptures, our spirit should have the will to disclose the splendour of Jesus and this, in turn, would nourish our faith.
3. You Would Be Joyous
A wise person cultivates the fruitful advantages of reading Bible by finding delight in the Scriptures. In the Divine description, such a person “is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers” (Psalm. 1:2-3). Your never-ending faith in Jesus is the key to open the secret door of unbounding happiness and joy. You would be able to chant the Words of God to others and find tranquillity in it. Such a joy transcends all that is material and provides the man praising God with the richest heart and mind.
4. You Would Overcome Temptations
The sacrifice of Jesus teaches us that our life is full of sins. But, it is the duty of mankind to follow what is right and discard the wrong. Temptations are devilish and terrible because those blur the distinction between wants and desires and lure us into getting demanding and overtly ambitious. But temptations lead only to destructions for which the Holy Scripture has described the devil Satan as “…a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44). The benefits of reading Bible would reveal to you how Holy Jesus met with temptations at every step and chose the path of righteousness. Falling into temptations does not make man a devil; it rather makes him a human who learns from mistakes and live a gentle life.
5. You Would Find Wisdom
As per the Holy Scripture, “for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil” (Hebrews 5:12-14). A wise man, led by God, does not act with impulse and can foresee the impact of all the problems and their significances in life. Scripture feeds us with nourishment and give us insights into the aims of our life. It tells us what we were born for- living a life in praise of God and bringing welfare to others. This wisdom, which comes to us as one of the lasting advantages of reading Bible, becomes manifold with our sharing the Words of God.
6. You Would Have Your Life Changed
When we like someone, we provide them with a place in our heart. The Scripture speaks on behalf of Jesus when it says, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you” (John 15:7). One reaps the true benefits of Bible study when he/she allows Jesus to work through them. Jesus needs a room in our heart like our loved ones so that we feel inspired in His Company. Bible directs us to prioritize the promising and instructive Words of God in our lives.
7. You Would Have Your Prayers Heard
When we give attention to the Holy Scriptures, our prayers become in accordance with what Jesus tells us to do. There is no manipulation in this process. It is rather a progression from a life of complaints to a life of revelations and wisdom. Bible inspires man to love the people liked by Jesus and visualize a living Jesus in communion with his humble heart.
As per the Scriptures, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart” (David 37:4). When one takes delight in Jesus, their prayers become universal in tone. The man transcends from earthly desires to ask in prayer what is commanded by God. This harmonious relationship with God is one of the most blissful advantages of reading Bible.
8. You Would Be Warned from the Wrong
A human being, without any holy guidance, cannot differentiate between the right and the wrongful deed. At present, mankind is carrying out many duties for the sake of performing them and does not know their future consequences. One of the benefits of reading Bible is the knowledge that our future is perceived by Jesus and He warns us through the scriptures when we tend to deviate from the Holy path.
9. You Would Have A Prosperous Life
In the Scriptures, the word prosperity has not only materialistic meaning. It rather has spiritual connotations and denotes virtues such as benevolence, gentleness and strength. The Scriptures state, “You have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God” (Pet. 1:23-25). The Bible would not provide us with any promising returns if we read it with malice in our hearts. One of the true advantages of reading Bible is realizing that prosperity lies in having an enriched and ever-lasting life which is free from greed and other selfish intentions.
10. You Would Learn to Hope
Scriptures teaches us that happiness lies in the acceptance of failure and tolerating the bad for the good. In the beautiful words of Paul (Romans. 15:4), “Whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” Our life is transient and our experience is too small compared to the vast Divinity. The Holy Jesus would show us the path of extracting joy from the small things in life and infuse hope into our lives.
11. You Would Experience True Freedom
One of the benefits of Bible study is that it shifts our mind from the conventional sense of freedom and enlightens us with the truth. As per the holy scripture, truthfulness sets a man free from all lies and sins, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). When one goes beyond the clutches of wrongful deeds, he/she leads a life of honesty and truth. Truth makes us holy and gives us salvation.
12. You Would have No Sinfulness
Bible identifies seven deadly sins which are also hailed as capital sins. Sins, such as envy, gluttony, greed, pride, lust, wrath and sloth, tempt us to have a hedonistic approach towards life and enjoy an existence which is gradually withering away. Bible teaches us how freedom from the sins are possible if one takes a recourse to the Divine Guidance. Human beings are clean and upright when they have disassociated themselves from such engulfing sins and understand that there is no peace in receiving excess. Scriptures of Paul state the same thing in Philippians (4:11), “I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.”
13. You Would feel Close to God
One of the benefits of reading Bible is to acknowledge the strength and power of the mighty Jesus and be proud of His instructions. Bible can be read as a manual in which the Holy Jesus has instructed mankind about the ways to live a life on earth and achieve an ever-lasting afterlife. A daily study of the Bible would make us feel blessed and protected by the Almighty. It would make all our pains dissolve into thin air and help us in achieving the plans God has for us.
14. You would have a Different Approach to Life
The deviation from the habit of seeking meaning and personal benefits in the earthly matters is one of the fulfilling advantages of reading Bible. Your outlook on life would change drastically and become more religious in nature. Moreover, reading the Bible would help you to find mercy and happiness in following the Divinity. You would understand that “Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us” (Timothy 3:16).
15. You Would have Spiritual Development
The benefits of reading the Bible helps the mankind to encounter their deepest fear and latent weaknesses. Jesus cleanses us through His Words and purifies our souls so that we live a life of peace and abundance. You would learn to confide in Jesus and have a spiritual growth which is satisfactory and fulfilling. Through Bible, you would learn to “take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Ephesians 6:17).
16. You Would Find Divinity to be Awe-inspiring
The Bible shows us the Heavenly Justification for the right and Punishment for the wrong. One of the advantages of reading Bible is that it vividly depicts the celebrated instance of the Fall of Satan from the Heaven for his act of disobedience. You would find the Heavenly treatment of the Luminous Satan after the fall to be dreadful. You would also be accompanied with the thought that committing sins would lead the life towards Divine Wrath and Destruction.
17. You Would Hear the Voice of God
Jesus speaks to us through the Holy Scriptures. With the benefits of reading Bible, you would hear God communicating to you through the Scriptures and you would glorify and praise Him before others so that the mankind is relieved from the earthly pains and filled with ethereal joy. So says the Holy Scripture, “For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror” (James 1:23).
18. You Would Be Virtuous and Humble
By reading the Bible, one learns to become gentle to others. You should be merciful and benevolent to the needs of others and build a community which is bound by the divine principles of sharing, love and care. One of the greatest advantages of reading Bible is to be endowed with virtues that strengthen our characters and make us better. A humble and meek life is a reflection of God on earth, “Whoever exalts himself would be humbled, and whoever humbles himself would be exalted” (Matthew 23:12).
You should read the Bible to extract the benefits of having liberty from ignorance and errors. God provides us with security through His Words and awakens us to the realization that our lives are gifted and governed by his Will.
